Bronx Snow Oct. 29, 2011

October 30, 2011

It is very unusual for us to have snow so early in the season. These pictures were taken early in the day. Where I live in the Bronx we got about 2 inches accumulation.

While it is very pretty, and peaceful, it caused a lot of problems because the leaves that are still on the trees retain the snow and the branches to become very heavy. They actually closed all of the city parks in order to keep people out of them and safe from falling branches and trees.

Unexpected Encounter

October 13, 2011

I was taking some pictures of the fall leaves and happened to be in the right place at the right time to encounter this squirrel enjoying a treat and showing off his natural talents in the maple tree in front of my house.

Easter Sunrise Service City Island, NY 2011

April 24, 2011

We had nice weather (a little foggy but warm) for our annual ecumenical Easter Sunrise Service on City Island, NY.

It is held in the Fordham Cemetery overlooking the Long Island Sound.

More Snow! Bronx, NY 1/27/11

January 27, 2011

We have had 36 inches of snow in NYC this month, which is more than we sometimes get in an entire season. 19 inches of that snow fell last night and this morning. With so much snow on top of snow, it is difficult to find places to put it. I wonder what they do in places that routinely get much more.

The plowing results in cars being buried by snow.

I’m glad I dug out the right car. I just hope the plows don’t come by again.

A lot of the snow was put into the yard, and quite a bit across the street in an unoccupied space. More snow is in the forecast. But where will we put it?

Prayer Request

November 6, 2010

Richard, a friend of mine, has been diagnosed with cancer that has spread to his liver. Please say a prayer for him, his wife, and his two small children (ages 4 and 1). Thank you and God Bless!

FALL COLORS

Happy Halloween!

Just some decorations I have seen recently, along with some fall color. I think the last one is my favorite.

Sunset by Moonlight

September 21, 2010

The shorter days mean that it is sunset even if I head out immediately after work to take a walk. Soon I will have to set out in the dark.

The light fixture in the distance is a nesting site for Monk parakeets in Pelham Bay Park, Bronx, NY.

Sometimes it is prettier looking to the East than to the West.

A lone fisherman along the Long Island Sound, Pelham Bay Park.

I wonder what this four-footed friend thinks of the beauty around him.

The moon at sunset—a beautiful combination.

When I consider your heavens,
       the work of your fingers,
       the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,

what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
Psalm 8:3, 4

The moon marks off the seasons,
and the sun knows when to go down.
Psalm 104:19

Best in Show for New York, New York

September 5, 2010

My Mom won “Best in Show” at the Lowcountry Senior Center in Charleston, SC in September 2010. She entered two oil paintings under the title “New York, New York.” The original titles were “Lunch Break” and “Walk.” While I sadly didn’t inherit her artistic talent, I always like to point out that she was visiting me when she took the numerous photos that were the inspiration for the paintings. They are from the South Street Seaport area of NYC. Congratulations, Mom!

UFO Sunset

September 3, 2010

I thought that these pictures that I took of a sunset while flying from Charleston, SC to LaGuardia Airport in NY looked like photos of some type of UFOs.
