Puppy Mill Awareness Day September 18th

September 13, 2010

A friend of mine rescues dogs and made this video showing pictures of the dogs she has rescued over just the past year.

September 18th is Puppy Mill Awareness day. Turn your sound up to hear the wonderful song written by Danno Herenchek for this purpose. Go to www.awarenessday.org to see how you can help.

Great Egret, Pelham Bay Park, Bronx NY

August 4, 2010

I see this Great Egret almost every evening during my walks around the neighborhood.

It is fun and calming to watch him (her?) walk through the water and occasionally catch a fish.

This cat is a frequent visitor. He stands as still as a statue and seems to have high hopes of catching something for himself.

The planes overhead don’t seem to bother him (one evening I counted 41 in a one hour walk).

But he takes off when a fisherman gets too close in the water while cooling off.

Other birds enjoy the sun and water, too.

It’s just sad to see how they all have to live among our trash.

Diversity

The diversity of nature amazes me, and points me toward our Creator.

What I Want to Know

December 28, 2009

I came across this nest recently when taking a walk. I am wondering who lives/lived there. It seems so precariously placed, with only one small branch and a bunch of wires for support.

It reminds me of the parable of the house build upon sand.

Matthew 7:24-28:
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!”

Now when Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.

Weather Change, Not Climate Change

When it gets cold this BronxCat moves from the windowsill to a warmer spot. I  don’t even need a thermometer.
